Rising Demand from End Users

Industrial end users demand coatings that are not only functional but high-performing in every condition. These are the top performance expectations that formulators must meet:

  • High gloss finish for professional appearance
  • Fast drying time to speed up production cycles
  • Excellent anti-blocking for defect-free stacking and storage
  • Adhesion to various substrates, including metals and plastics
  • Early water resistance to minimize film damage
  • Chemical resistance to acids and alkalis
  • Salt spray resistance to prevent corrosion
  • Aging/weather resistance for long-term durability

Meeting all these criteria in one binder system is a complex task—but ENCOR® 2436 makes it achievable.

ENCOR® 2436 for Industrial Coatings

  • Good flexibility
  • Resistance to acid and some alkali
  • Salt spray and water resistance

ENCOR® 2436 Performance Comparison

ENCOR® 2436 provides a balanced combination of solid content, viscosity, particle size, and MFFT—making it a versatile choice for formulators seeking both performance and ease of processing. Its excellent film-forming behavior supports faster drying and better blocking resistance.

In addition, ENCOR® 2436 shows strong adhesion to a wide range of challenging substrates including plastics (PC, ABS, PC+ABS), various metals (tinplate, CRS, aluminum, SUS304), and even glass—making it suitable for multi-surface systems without the need for adhesion primers.

For formulators interested in a full side-by-side comparison with other market binders, including detailed latex data and substrate performance charts, we’ve outlined the complete results in a previous blog post on ENCOR® 2436 and ENCOR® 2438

QUV Accelerated Weathering

ENCOR® 2436 was subjected to QUV-B testing for up to 500 hours to simulate prolonged exposure to UV light and moisture. The binder exhibited significantly lower gloss loss (ΔGloss) compared to other commercial alternatives, indicating excellent resistance to UV-induced degradation. In addition, yellowing and color shifts were minimal, ensuring long-term appearance retention in outdoor or light-exposed environments.

Water Resistance

Film integrity was tested under both early-stage and extended water contact:

  • Within the first 24 hours, ENCOR® 2436 maintained a strong barrier against water intrusion, preventing blistering, whitening, or softening.
  • Even after 5 days of immersion in room temperature water, the coating film remained intact—demonstrating its suitability for high-humidity or moisture-prone applications.

Salt Spray Resistance

When applied to cold-rolled steel (CRS) panels at a dry film thickness of 50–60 µm, ENCOR® 2436 successfully passed 5 days of continuous salt spray exposure. Notably, this performance was achieved without the use of anti-rust pigments, proving its capability to offer baseline corrosion protection in light-duty to medium-duty environments.

Why Formulators Choose ENCOR® 2436?
