In industrial applications, protecting metal surfaces from corrosion is a constant battle. Corrosion not only compromises the structural integrity of materials but also leads to costly maintenance and replacements. Traditional coatings, while effective, often rely on solvent-based formulations that emit harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), posing significant environmental and health risks. Additionally, these coatings typically require high-temperature curing, which increases energy consumption and operational costs.
Many conventional coatings struggle to meet the dual requirements of being both high-performing and environmentally friendly. Solvent-based coatings, though effective against corrosion, contribute to air pollution and pose health hazards to workers. Their high VOC emissions are increasingly subject to regulatory restrictions, making them less viable for long-term use. Furthermore, the need for high-temperature curing can be impractical for many industrial settings, leading to inefficiencies and higher operational costs.
Introduction: GEN RE 3914 A Modified Epoxy Dispersion
GEN RE 3914 is a special waterborne acrylic-modified epoxy dispersion. It can be used for 1K air-dry, low-temperature baking (60-80oC, for 30 minutes) without crosslinking resin, or combined with amino resin for baking system (120-150oC, for 30 minutes).
GEN RE 3914 is primarily epoxy and contains hydroxyl group. It has epoxy characteristics such as; good adhesion, and high hardness, but tends to be yellow when exposed to sunlight. Coating made of GEN RE 3914 is more suitable for indoor use. For outdoor use, GEN RE 3914 is more suitable to be used as a primer, and a UV-tolerant topcoat is required to protect the system against sunlight. GEN RE 3914 has no epoxy equivalent weight and is not reactive to epoxy amine hardener.
