Maha has once again demonstrated our commitment to sustainability by achieving impressive results in this year’s Ecovadis assessment. For the third consecutive year, the company has been awarded the Silver Medal, showcasing its consistent dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
What is Ecovadis and Why It Matters For Sustainability
Ecovadis is a global sustainability ratings agency that evaluates how well companies have integrated sustainability principles into their business and management systems. Ecovadis assesses companies on environmental, labor, and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement practices across 200 sectors and 150 countries. Their methodology is built on international CSR standards like the Global Reporting Initiative, the UN Global Compact and the iSO 26000 guidance standard.
Ecovadis ratings provide an objective measure of a company’s sustainability performance. Achieving a high Ecovadis score demonstrates to stakeholders that a company is effectively managing key sustainability risks and impacts. For Maha Asia, maintaining a strong Ecovadis rating is important to maintain credibility and secure new business from clients with sustainability requirements.
Going from Top 20% to Top 15%
Our significant achievement in this year’s assessment is our increase in overall score, raising our ranks from the top 20% to the top 15% of all companies rated by EcoVadis. This notable achievement reflects Maha Asia’s deep commitment to sustainable business practices and corporate social responsibility. Through rigorous assessment across four key areas – environment, labor, and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement – Ecovadis identified numerous strengths in Maha Asia’s policies, action and results.
With this latest honor, Maha Asia continues to demonstrate that sustainability can go hand-in-hand with business success.
Highlights of Maha Asia's Sustainability Achievements
Looking Through Ecovadis Four Pillars
Breaking down the assessment into its four sustainability pillars – Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Of which, Maha has notably improved in two key areas: the environmental and ethics pillars bringing about an increase to our overall score.
In the environmental pillar, our score surged from 50/100 to an impressive 70/100, which can be attributed to our active tracking and reporting on our business’ environmental impact and our adoption of eco-friendly practices such as solar panels, electric vans and recycling initatives.
In the ethics pillar, we saw a substantial improvement from 60/100 to 70/100. This can be credited to our commitment to upholding ethical standards by fostering transparency through rigorous whistleblowing and due diligence programs. In addition, we conduct awareness training for all employees on ethical issues and anti-corruption procedures.
Sustainability Innovation Award at the Enterprise 50 (E50) Awards
In addition to our Ecovadis Silver Medal, Maha was recently honoured with the Sustainability Innovation Award at the Enterprise 50 (E50) Awards. This prestigious accolade underscores Maha’s innovative approach to embedding ESG principles across our operations and value chains, further solidifying our position as a leader in sustainable business practices.
What's Next? Maha Asia's Sustainability Goals For 2024
In 2024, we aim to expand our sustainability initiatives in two aspects of our business. In the commercial aspect, we hope to increase sales and awareness of our Green Products by creating an online library for increased viewership. Internationally, all RCCs are to apply for EcoVadis by the end of 2024 to successfully qualify Maha Group for EcoVadis Corporate.
Through a combination of incremental changes and innovative solutions, Maha Asia is poised to make a major progress on sustainability over the coming year. With a strategic focus and dedication of its leadership and workforce, the company will continue improving to reach new heights of environmental and social responsibility and better serve clients, employees and communities for years to come.
